The best riders on the planet head to Pobladura de las Regueras this coming weekend for the Spanish TrialGP, round two of the 2020 Hertz FIM Trial World Championship.

With five classes lining up to do battle, the action will come thick and fast at the venue in the North West of the country that is making its return to the World Championship calendar after an absence of seven years. Riders can expect imposing rocks and super-steep climbs and descents that will test both courage and commitment over two points-paying days.

Leading the way in the premier TrialGP class, defending champion Toni Bou (Repsol Honda) suffered his first defeat in over two years last time out when he slipped to third on day two of TrialGP France. However, he still holds a slender one-point advantage over Jaime Busto (Vertigo) and is two ahead of his long-time rival Adam Raga (TRRS) whose victory on Sunday at the Isola 2000 ski resort was his first in three years.

Jeroni Fajardo (Sherco) and Jorge Casales (Gas Gas) complete the all-Spanish top-five ahead of sixth-placed Japanese veteran Takahisa Fujinami (Repsol Honda).

Out of the current top-six, only Casales has yet to taste victory at the highest level but the 25-year-old is no stranger to the podium and will be hoping to capitalise on Bou’s rumoured forearm injury to make his debut on the top step.

Britain’s Emma Bristow (Sherco) has dominated the TrialGP Women class for the last six years and a double win at TrialGP France sees her head to Spain with a commanding six-point lead over Spain’s Berta Abellan (Vertigo) who was her closest challenger at the opening round.

Sandra Gomez (TRRS) completed the podium on both days at Isola 2000 but is already 10 points behind Bristow with America’s Madeleine Hoover (Gas Gas) tied with Caroline Moreon (Sherco) from France a further six points off the pace.

The Trial2 class was too close to call in France with Italy’s Matteo Grattarola (Beta) and home hero Alexandre Ferrer (TRRS) trading wins over the two days of competition with Ferrer’s victory on day two only coming by way of a tie-break. Pablo Suarez (Montesa) from Spain is third ahead of Norway’s Sondre Haga (TRRS) and British hopeful Toby Martyn (TRRS) but the trio are already a long way down on the leading pair.

It was also a case of honours-even in Trial2 Women in France where Italy’s Andrea Rabino (Beta) and Naomi Monnier (Beta) from France exchanged wins and second-placed finishes and as a result head to Spain locked together at the top of the points table. French rider Lenna Volpe (TRRS) scored a pair of third-placed finishes to end the weekend four points clear of Britain’s Alicia Robinson (Beta).

The Trial125 class is where we get our first glimpse of the stars of tomorrow and no-one burned brighter than Pau Martinez (Vertigo) at Isola 2000. The Spanish teenager dominated both days of competition in the Alps and as a result holds a 10-point lead over compatriot Alex Canales (TRRS) and Leo Guiraud (Beta) from France.
