22/08/19 – New Trial125 champion Kieran Touly has his sights set on the top…
At the tender age of just 18 – and with the 2019 FIM Trial125 title wrapped up in style – Kieran Touly (Scorpa) is already focussing on his move to the Trial2 class next season.
Kieran, who lives in Montbrison in central France, made his FIM Trial World Championship debut this season and dominated to win five out of six rounds on his way to a clear-cut 26-point victory. He now plans to follow in the footsteps of last year’s champion Billy Green and climb the next rung on the ladder as he continues on a journey that he hopes will take him to the very top of the sport.
“My goal was to be world champion this year,” he said. “I concentrated on that and I really trained for it both physically and technically. Now I must continue to train hard this winter so I am fully prepared to move up to Trial2 because the standard is so high.”
Kieran was a comparatively late starter and didn’t begin riding until the age of 12, despite a strong family connection to the sport with his father running a Trial school. However, his combination of natural talent and an iron will to succeed has already proven to be a winning mix and his graduation to Trial2 will be closely watched next season by a number of big teams.
Trial has a long and illustrious history in France and, although his hero is none other than the great Toni Bou, Kieran has no shortage of role models from a bit closer to home with French stars Gilles Burgat and current FIM Trial Director Thierry Michaud both winning World titles.
But for now Kieran must be patient and take his career one step at a time – although he’s determined not to lose sight of his ultimate destination.
“TrialGP is my biggest dream! I will give myself the means to make it happen. I do not want to have regrets.”
Following its traditional summer break, the 2019 FIM Trial World Championship resumes on September 21-22 with TrialGP Spain – the seventh and final round of this year’s series – at La Nucia just north of Benidorm.
