31/03/17 – TrialGP – Tonight’s season closing FIM X-Trial World Championship event in Nice represents the latest in a very long history of indoor competitions held in France that dates back to 1993, when the country hosted its first then FIM Indoor Trial World Cup event in Toulouse. Reinforcing the importance of French involvement in the series, France was actually responsible for three events in 1993 the other competitions taking place in Marseille and Le Cannet. The following two years after France held five rounds of the series on each occasion and four competitions again in 1996.
From 1998 onwards France has been responsible for holding a minimum of one FIM Indoor / X-Trial World Championship event every year, right through to 2017 that has seen both Marseille and Nice play their part in deciding the 2017 champion who will be crowned later tonight. This evening will be only the fourth time Nice has been included in the series despite hosting many other international competitions. Marc Freixa – Montesa was the winner at the original edition in 2003, before Adam Raga claimed the top step of the podium the year after, whilst Toni Bou – Repsol Honda was the last victor in Nice back in 2013, and is favourite to repeat this feat again later today.
