With Spain as winners of the 2017 FIM X-Trial des Nations and Toni Bou – Repsol Honda having claimed an amazing eleventh straight FIM Indoor / X-Trial World Championship the 2017 indoor season is now officially over. With the winter series wrapped up the riders and teams will now focus their attentions to the 2017 FIM Trial World Championship as the action shifts outside with the series opener taking place in Camprodon, Spain over the weekend of 13/14 May.
The 2017 season marks an important and new moment in the forty-three-year history of the outdoor series with many fresh ideas being implemented under the management of the recently appointed promoter Sport7 who will work alongside the FIM to successfully bring these changes to fruition across the eight round tour that will end in Italy come September.
With the TrialGP now restricted to the twenty best riders on the planet, Trial2 – with its new 250cc capacity limit becomes a full FIM World Championship for the first time ever to give the abundance of emerging talent real equal status alongside their more established peers. The Trial125 class, now limited to just five events, will be the most hotly contested ever with a record number of riders signed up to compete in the entire series. The female series will also see changes with two classes designed to mirror their male counterparts confirming their equal position within the championship.
The dirt will officially start to fly on Saturday 13 May, when the newly introduced time qualification will be used to decide starting order for the following day’s main event. For full details visit www.trialgp.com
