06/08/19 – Alex Brancati is climbing the ladder to success…
At just 18 years old, Alex Brancati (Beta) is leading the new wave of young female talent rising through the ranks of the FIM Women’s Trial World Championship.
The rider from Genoa in North West Italy made her Trial2 Women debut halfway through the 2017 season when she finished fourth at the final two rounds of the year. In 2018 she was back again but this time for the full series and she dominated, winning every round on her way to a clear-cut championship victory.
A move to the premier TrialGP Women class followed for 2019 and after three rounds she’s shown herself to be more than capable of holding her own among the best riders in the World – an incredible achievement for someone who only started riding Trial just five years ago because the sport is, as she puts it, “less dangerous than motocross”.
Alex has improved at every round. Starting with an eighth on the opening day at TrialGP Japan, she climbed to seventh on day two before a breakthrough performance at TrialGP Portugal where she finished fourth – just 10 marks away from a podium – which moved her up to sixth in the championship.
“Moving up has been hard,” she said, “but I really like TrialGP Women and I’m happy with my results up to now – Portugal was perfect but it was a surprise.”
Obviously ambitious as evidenced by her rapid rise in less than three years of World Championship competition, Alex is still keeping her feet on the ground while aiming for the top – although she freely acknowledges her ultimate goal when asked if she thinks she could one day be World Champion.
“Well I don’t know, it would be nice – let’s see!”
The final round of the 2019 FIM Trial World Championship – TrialGP Spain – takes place at La Nucia on September 21-22 when the TrialGP, TrialGP Women, Trial2 and Trial2 Women classes will all be in action.
