07/06/17 – TrialGP – Soon to be thirty-seven-years-old Albert Cabestany – Sherco will be hoping for better fortunes when the 2017 FIM Trial World Championship reaches the small principality of Andorra for the third round of the current series. Cabestany, who managed to turn a poor qualification at the opening round in Spain into a podium place endured a very difficult weekend in Japan for a number of reasons.
A call from Spain regarding his minders sick father, meant that Albert’s long and loyal team member Lluis Gallach had to return home immediately before the competition had even got underway proper. This did little to help Albert’s preparations or focus his mind before the important two-day event and reflected in yet another poor qualification result as he placed fifteenth and suffered mechanical problems with his bike that had to be attended to ahead of Saturday’s Trial.
Saturday failed to bring any further cheer for Cabestany as he ended the day down in eighth place much due to his poor starting position. Thankfully with the sun shining overhead the following day Albert’s fortunes did start to turn around, as he made the most of the drier conditions to record his second podium of the season to date.
The Sherco factory rider will arrive in Andorra next week holding fourth spot in the general standings, just one point behind his compatriot Jeroni Fajardo – Vertigo in third place and seven points away from current runner up Adam Raga – TRS.
Already a four time winner in these mountains, if Cabestany can shine at this year’s TrialGP Andorra he will be right back in the mix as the series heads into its busiest period.
