Top British rider James Dabill – Gas Gas is hoping his knowledge of the terrain surrounding Camprodon will give him an advantage at this weekend’s opening round of the 2017 FIM Trial World Championship.
The thirty-one-year-old, ranked seventh in the TrialGP class, rode for Vertigo in 2015 and 2016 and spent many hours training and testing at the venue.
“I know the area well,” says James. “It’s going to be quite a natural Trial so I think it will be something different – we don’t have many places in the World Championship that offer natural terrain. I’m looking forward to riding some rivers and bankings.”
In some respects James had his best-ever season last year. Although he has finished as high as sixth in the World Championship on four occasions, in 2016 he claimed three podium finishes including a career-best second on the opening day of the TrialGP Great Britain.
“I had a really good year last year – I was confident, I was comfortable and I’m aiming to build on that. I believe there’s no reason why I can’t do that again and hopefully do even better.”
“It’s always going to be difficult because the Spanish are so good but I’ll be trying my best. I spend most of my time in Spain at the moment and I’ve been training hard.”
He is also looking forward to the revamped format introduced by new championship promoter Sport7.
“I’m interested to see how the timed section will work out,” he adds. “It’s something new for all of us. I think it will be good for the public to watch and could be fun for the riders.”
