Sometimes in the modern World the reality fails to match the hype, but in the case of TrialGP Great Britain the event delivered beyond even what was expected of this historic stop on the 2018 tour. The iconic hilltop location was blessed with untypically British warm, dry and sometimes sunny weather throughout the weekend that added to the whole occasion.
Despite its famous and revered status gained over many years of being home to numerous Trial competitions right up to international level, Addingham Moorside – that overlooks Dougie Lampkin’s hometown of Silsden has never hosted a TrialGP event previously. The gathered ensemble of the World’s best Trial riders were certainly not disappointed when they finally got to feast their eyes on the huge granite boulders that define this imposing venue.
Saturday’s two qualification sessions set the tone for the weekend with some epic performances on the fast and flowing section that was packed deep with spectators on all sides, and helped the large British crowd find it voice as home riders excelled as the sun shone overhead.
If Saturday had been great, Sunday was about to be amazing as huge crowds gathered before the gates were even opened. Ice creams in hand, thanks to the exceptionally warm weather, the British fans were treated to a day to remember with some awesome riding that culminated in both the legendary Toni Bou – Repsol Honda and home heroine Emma Bristow – Sherco clinching their latest titles. Britain’s ever flamboyant Toby Martyn – Montesa winning and further extending his lead in the Trial2 title race was the real icing on the cake, as Italy’s Alex Brancati – Beta deservedly wrapped up the Trial2 Women series.
