17/04/19 – Martin Riobo has his sights set on the biggest prize in Trial…

The Trial125 class is an essential stepping stone in the FIM Trial World Championship and one rider who it has helped to progress is Spain’s Martin Riobo.

Martin, who celebrated his 17th birthday in April, finished second in last year’s Trial125 championship chase and along with champion Billy Green from Britain has elected to move up to the Trial2 class in 2019.

The teenager from Galicia in the North West of Spain has been riding motorcycles for almost as long as he has been able to walk and, unlike many of his contemporaries, went straight to petrol-powered – as opposed to pedal-powered – Trial.

Last season he led the Trial125 series after two events but, ultimately, inconsistent results on day two in Japan and again at the following round in Andorra left him 13 points short of the title. However, with two wins to his credit he demonstrated to everyone that he has what it takes to get onto the top step of the podium.

For 2019 Martin, whose favourite rider is Jorge Casales, has switched to Montesa and four-stroke power with the Talent School Team and he is very straight-talking when it comes to his ultimate ambition.

“I want to be World Champion!”

So remember his name. If one day he does achieve the ultimate in Trial, this is where you read about him first!
