23/03/17 – TrialGP – A shock third at the opening round of the Spanish Trial Championship last Sunday, Miquel Gelabert – Sherco is planning to use the result as a springboard to launch his 2017 TrialGP campaign when the eight-round series gets under way on 13/14 May at Camprodon in Spain.

The 19-year-old from Barcelona won last year’s FIM European Championship and finished his debut TrialGP season ranked 10th with his best result a seventh-placed finish on day two in Andorra.

A winter of solid training paid off in Majorca when he followed Toni Bou – Repsol Honda and Adam Raga – TRS home, finishing comfortably ahead of Albert Cabestany – Sherco and Jeroni Fajardo – Vertigo.

“I trained hard as always,” says Miquel, “but I was always searching to improve on my bad points. I also thought much more while I was riding and worked hard on my technique.”

“I was still surprised to finish third. I rode well and was very focused and aggressive but I didn’t think that my performance would be good enough for third.”

Miquel now plans to use the result as a platform to build upon as he prepares for only his second TrialGP season.

“That result is motivation to keep pushing to be better every day and I think it is a reward for the sacrifice of my team and myself and the hours we spend working hard.”

His Majorcan finish has also caused Miquel to re-evaluate his ambitions for the coming season.

“My goals are changed after this weekend,” he adds. “It’s true that it was just one event but it seems that we are further on than we thought we were so now my aim is to try to finish fifth, sixth or seventh overall and at some rounds fight for the podium!”.
