The nineteenth consecutive edition of TrialGP Japan did not disappoint with a drama packed two days of competition, as the series hosted an event that included five different classes for the first time in its forty plus year history. This incredible weekend was blessed with fantastic weather as the land of the rising sun delivered big.

Everything was perfectly poised at the iconic Twin Ring venue for reigning champion Toni Bou – Repsol Honda to potentially secure two more wins and reach the magical total of one hundred GP victories and in doing so overtake the long-time record of ninety-nine round wins held by Dougie Lampkin.

Unfortunately for Bou, the Gas Gas team had not read the script and inflicted not one but two victories over the eleven times FIM Trial World Champion right in Honda’s backyard. Jeroni Fajardo’s – Gas Gas stunning triumph on Saturday was only the second of his career, his other triumph coming in Andorra back in 2009. And then just twenty-four hours later Jaime Busto – Gas Gas ensured he could play his part in the team celebrations as he secured his first and perhaps long overdue victory.

Whilst it was the TrialGP Gas Gas duo who stole the headlines, there was much, much more to the event in Motegi with Emma Bristow – Sherco recording back-to-back wins to mark the start to the 2018 Women’s campaign, plus a weekend that was simply packed with fiercely fought battles across Trial2, Trial2 Women and Trial125 to make it one of the best rounds since the series began back in 1975.

With so much great footage from Friday’s action filled qualification right through to Sunday’s closing podium celebrations, it has been a real task to squeeze the best shots into the highlights show that once again has been passionately narrated by the now familiar voice of Rob Warner.
