TrialGP Andorra is a regular stop for the series, though this year will see a much changed course and new paddock as the long standing event embraces the new TrialGP era. The steep sided, huge rocky valley that defines the southern part of Andorra is the backdrop for one of the most unforgiving venues in the calendar.

High altitude, hot weather and super gruelling sections have earned Andorra its tough reputation and is a real test for even the top riders. This year’s more compact course stays closer to the town centre of Sant Julia, which will again house the paddock / start area and opening / closing section plus Saturday’s Qualification hazard. With plenty of well-priced hotels close to hand and the added bonus of being able to pick up some tax-free gifts, Andorra is well worth a visit.

TRIALGP JAPAN

MOTEGI

The Twin Ring Motegi facility holds a unique place in the annals of the FIM Trial World Championship and will add to its long and illustrious history when it’s the venue for TrialGP Japan, round two of the 2020 series.

Built by Honda in 1997, it was the venue for the very first TrialGP Japan ever held in 2000 and every year since has hosted a round of the championship – an unparalleled record that is unmatched in the series’ 45-year history.

Named after its two Tarmac race circuits, Twin Ring Motegi lies 140km to the north of Tokyo and will be the only flyaway event in 2020 but is well worth the trip with two days of competition scheduled.

The Trial itself is very compact and easy to follow on foot with a mixture of man-made hazards and natural hill climbs. The Japanese hospitality and organisation is second to none and while the food is very different to that found in Europe, there is plenty of variety and western alternatives to cater for all appetites. 

Transfer from Tokyo by hire car or train is relatively straightforward with many European languages spoken throughout Japan.

The 2020 TrialGP France will mark the 23rd anniversary of the famed Cahors Urban Trial although riders can expect much more in the way of natural sections as it is now the penultimate round of the FIM Trial World Championship.
The historic town lies on the Lot river in the Occitanie region of southern France and is around 110km north of Toulouse.
With no shortage of steep climbs to test the best Trial riders in the World, TrialGP France promises to provide a unique – and very spectacular – test of both man and machine.

TONG

Back on the calendar after a two-year absence, Tong lies in the north of England in West Yorkshire close to Leeds Bradford Airport and boasts excellent transport links.

Custom-built sections still retain a very natural feel with imposing rock slabs, huge logs, treacherous tree roots and steep climbs figuring prominently and the big news is that for 2020 there will be two points-paying days of action.

The last time the FIM Trial World Championship visited in 2017 it was on a bone-dry, blisteringly hot weekend which made for an abundance of grip but rain could change the whole complexion of the Trial.

TRIALGP BELGIUM

Comblain-au-Pont

Having hosted two previous events, TrialGP Belgium returns to the town of Comblain au Pont for what is described as the ‘Monaco’ of Trial. Squeezed into the narrow main street the paddock has a unique and special atmosphere that is added to by the close proximity of the local bars, restaurants and coffee shops. The sections are grouped well in nearby woodland with slippery rocks and steep climbs being the order of the day.

Back in the main street, the final hazard high on the castle topped embankment is really something to be seen. This will be added to this time around with the Qualification section also being built in the same area. Fans can enjoy the local beer plus the famous frites and mayonnaise whilst watching the drama unfold right before them. Adding weight to the occasion the 2018 TrialE winner will be crowned come Sunday afternoon.

TOLMEZZO

Last used for top-flight Trial in 2011 when it hosted the Trial des Nations, Tolmezzo is a town in the north east of Italy. 

Nestled in the foothills of the Alps close to the borders with Austria and Slovenia and 170km from Venice, expect a mixture of man-made sections in the town along with natural hazards plotted in the stream beds and on the hillsides that surround the town.

BAIONA

Whilst the individual championship will have been decided one week earlier in Italy, the real end of season celebrations will take place in the seaside town of Baiona as it hosts this year’s TDN – Trial des Nations. Contested by more than thirty teams over three classes the TDN is often regarded as the Olympic of Trial.

This year’s inter country team competition will see Qualification for all riders take place on Friday before the Women’s TDN plays out on Saturday and ahead of the Men’s main event come Sunday. 2010 saw Baiona host its one and only TrialGP event, and will look forward to welcoming riders and fans from all over the World to this unspoilt corner of north-west Spain for the final action of the 2017 TrialGP season and to hopefully enjoy the last of the summer sun.

With plenty of affordable flights to both Spain and neighbouring north Portugal at this time of year, it makes sense to be part of this special and unique occasion.
