2018 will see Trial125 become a fully-fledged FIM World Championship (promoted from a FIM World Cup) alongside Trial2 that was raised to the same level in 2017, and the longer established blue ribbon TrialGP and TrialGP Women's classes.
This recognition comes after the success of the five-round series this year that saw a large increase in the number of riders taking part in the entire Championship; there was a record breaking entry at TrialGP Great Britain, when the class was over-subscribed for the first time in its history.
Entries for the new FIM Trial125 World Championship will open in early January for pre-selected riders (comprising this year's top fifteen Trial125 ranked riders) and for the soon-to-be-confirmed pre-selected riders in the other class as well. As in 2017, each class will be limited, with pre-selected riders having a two-week priority period before entries are then opened to all riders (subject to approval) on a first come first served basis.
Following this change approved by the FIM General Assembly in Andorra, FIM Sports Director Fabio Muner commented: "This class, opened for young riders from 14 years upwards, underwent successful changes during the 2017 season with an average of 20 riders per event. The number of events was slightly reduced with the addition of an Overseas Event which generated fresh interest. This evolution corresponds to a logic of running Trial competition classes in line with the market for young riders, thereby increasing the visibility of the Championship and guaranteeing new generations for the future of Trial."

"We would like to thank the FIM for recognising Trial125 as a true World Championship and as a highly important platform for developing the next generation of champions. Trial125, our rookie class, represents the future of our sport and is something that ranks high amongst our priorities as we look to build on the success of our initial season as promoters."
